How to use the free map

1. Locate the land

Type an address, a postcode or coordinates, or upload your plot as KML, SHP or GeoJSON. The KML of any parcel can be downloaded free from the Spanish Cadastre; with the "Cadastral parcels" layer on you will see its boundaries on the map.

2. Click for the express check

One click returns wind speed at 100 m, solar irradiation, MITECO environmental sensitivity, indicative yield and revenue per hectare, and the nearest substation with its connection capacity. Every value has a traffic light and an explanation.

3. Switch on the layers you need

Existing turbines, power plants, 66 to 400 kV lines, environmental zoning for wind and PV, municipal boundaries, cadastre and land use. Locked layers belong to the paid versions.

What each result means

Thresholds used by the express check. They are screening criteria, not a study: they help you discard sites quickly and see where deeper work is worthwhile.

The map shows how a wind or solar site is chosen in Spain. These are the terms you will see and the official sources the data comes from.

Basic glossary

Mean wind speed (m/s)
Annual average at a given height (100 or 150 m, close to the hub of today's turbines). It comes from atmospheric models, not from on-site measurements.
Capacity factor
Energy produced in a year divided by what full power all year would produce. Onshore wind in Spain is typically 25–35 %.
Global irradiation (kWh/m²·yr)
Solar energy received by one square metre in a year. "Optimum tilt" means tilted at the angle that maximises capture.
MWh/ha·yr
Energy a plant would produce per hectare of land occupied. It lets you compare plots of different size.
Environmental sensitivity
MITECO's classification of the territory by environmental vulnerability for wind and for PV, from minimal to maximum.
Substation and connection capacity
The point where a plant delivers energy to the grid. Connection capacity is the power that can still be connected there; Red Eléctrica and the distribution companies publish it.
kV (kilovolts)
Voltage of a power line. 220 and 400 kV are the transmission grid; 66–132 kV is high-voltage distribution.
DIA
Environmental impact statement: the ruling that allows or refuses a project after assessing its environmental effects.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes. The express check and every unlocked layer need no registration. Locked layers and project features (layout, financials, reports) are in WindSense and Vigía.

How accurate is the check?

It is indicative: wind and irradiation come from models, not from on-site measurements, and grid distances are computed on public layers. It is meant to discard sites and set priorities; a real project needs measurements and studies.

Is the "revenue" what the landowner would receive?

No. It is the project's energy sales per hectare. The landowner receives an annual rent negotiated by contract, which depends on the resource, the connection and competition for the land. To learn what rent is reasonable to ask, request the free assessment of your land.

What are the locked layers?

Data that belongs to the paid versions: substations with connection capacity, easements, landscape and wind direction in WindSense; projects under permitting in Vigía.

Can I share an assessment?

Yes. The "Copy link" button creates an address with the coordinates; whoever opens it sees the same assessment. Useful for sending a point to a partner or a client.
